Middle-class Americans--not the poor or the rich--pay the majority of annual tax revenues taken in by the federal government, according to data in a new Congressional Budget Office study. Households earning less than $34,300 per year, meanwhile, actually pay a negative average federal income tax rate.

janetmok 		The top 5% of wage earners pay 59% of the total income tax burden.

Since the bottom 50% of wage earners pay only 3% ot the total income tax burden it is very easy for them to vote to raise taxes on others.

CBO numbers are provided by the current adminstration so how can you trust them or CBS.

DorthyP 		You are aware that the middle class earns an average of $200,000 a year... right? From where I'm sitting... that's pretty freaking rich. The problem with you libs is: the sliding scale keeps changing. Pretty soon, anyone earning over $50,000 a year will be considered rich.

tranglu 		The rich do infact pay much more than the poor and middle class put together but the impact their life styles is less than it is for the rest of us. They also get much more in the way of government programs and services than we do.
