Why there is no retained earnings shown in the balance sheet of a public listed company's financial statement?


Also, what if a public listed company's balance sheet (from the financial statement) show it has the lowest retained earnings? and what if it has the highest retained earnings? Please tell me the reasons.
Please help. Thank you!

janetmok 		Has the company actually traded ? Made losses ? Paid all profits out as dividends ? Show the retained profits under another name ?

Highest/lowest - hard to draw conclusions as it is a combination of profits/losses and distributions.
